Evidence-driven discovery – the citizen historian\/scientist\u2019s method: <\/strong><\/span><\/i> – Test, measure & analyse observed phenomena for clues to the roots of historical puzzles. My goal, always, is to develop directions to test for reproducible evidence:<\/section>\n

  1. Thoroughly research<\/li>\n
  2. Be skeptical when observing puzzling clues<\/li>\n
  3. Delve into the depths – wherever avenues take you<\/li>\n
  4. Allow for serendipity – develop If\/Then hypotheses<\/li>\n
  5. Propose & design methods to test for evidence<\/li>\n
  6. If archaeological, report sites to public & scientific authorities<\/li>\n
  7. Design & execute experiments that can be independently reproduced<\/li>\n
  8. Secure and professionally manage the evidentiary-data-collection-trail<\/li>\n
  9. Analyse the results for supporting & contradictory evidence<\/li>\n
  10. Publish the report to authorities<\/li>\n
  11. Ask more questions<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

    “When conducting research,\u00a0scientists\u00a0use the\u00a0scientific method\u00a0to collect measurable,\u00a0empirical evidence<\/strong>\u00a0in an experiment related to a\u00a0hypothesis<\/strong>\u00a0(often in the form of an if\/then statement), the results aiming to support or contradict a\u00a0theory<\/strong>. The steps of the scientific method go something like this:<\/p>\n

    1. Make an observation or observations.<\/li>\n
    2. Ask questions about the observations and gather information.<\/li>\n
    3. Form a hypothesis \u2014 a tentative description of what\u2019s been observed, make predictions using that hypothesis.<\/li>\n
    4. Test the hypothesis and predictions in an experiment that can be reproduced.<\/li>\n
    5. Analyze the\u00a0data\u00a0and draw conclusions; accept or reject the hypothesis or modify the hypothesis if necessary.<\/li>\n
    6. Reproduce the experiment until there are no discrepancies between observations and theory.”<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
