The Horne Lake road officially went out of service in 1886. The replacement – now Highway #4 – got built along the north shore of Cameron Lake through Cameron Lake pass. It was selected as it would be an easier grade for waggon traffic. This route could not go on the south side of the lake because of dangerous overhanging cliffs. They were blasted clean in later years, to move the highway to the south shore to accommodate a railway line on the north shore.<\/p>\n
