CompTIA A+ Edition (Essentials & Practical Application)

For entry-level IT technicians, the CompTIA A+ exams cover preventative maintenance, basic networking, installation, troubleshooting, communication and professionalism.

CompTIA Network+ Edition

For networking professionals, the CompTIA Network+ exam covers managing, maintaining, troubleshooting, operating and configuring basic network infrastructure.

Microsoft Certified IT Proffesional (MCITP)

Windows Server certification demonstrates your leadership and problem-solving skills in working with Windows Server 2012. Server administrators are recognized among their peers and managers as leaders in the day-to-day operations management of Windows Server 2012. Demonstrate and communicate your ability to take system-wide ownership of Windows Server 2012 administration and increase your organization's return on technology investment by earning the MCSA: Windows Server 2012 certification. Junior Level Linux Proffesional (LPIC-1)

Testing Procedures

Your 4 official IT vendor examinations that you need to successfully complete TSP will be delivered through Pearson VUE (CompTIA) and Prometric (Microsoft) . Please familiarize yourself with both websites. BCIT supports Pearson VUE and will accommodate your CompTIA exams. UBC will provide you with instructions regarding Microsoft exam registration procedures with Prometric. Although you can schedule a test here .

Generating a Pearson VUE web account for first time users

In order to register for your CompTIA exams through the Pearson VUE web site, a free web account must first be created. This VUE web page will prompt you to create a new account or to recover your username/password for those who already have an existing VUE account.

Exam registration instructions

  1. Pay attention to your scheduled "Registration Dates & Times" to officially register for your exams.
    REGISTRATION DATES (12:00PM - 1:00PM)
    Tuesday, October 2 ----- A+ Essentials (JKO-801) for Friday, October 5 exam date
    Tuesday, October 8 ----- A+ Practical Application (JKO-802) for Friday, October 11 exam date
    Monday, October 21 ----- Network+ (JKO-019) for Monday, October 28 exam date
  2. "Sign In" to access your Pearson VUE account by choosing
    Narrow by category >> Information Technology
    Select your testing program >> CompTIA
    (Pay attention to choosing the correct exam code. ie. JKO-801, not 220-801)
  3. Continue to follow VUE website instructions to complete registration process.
  4. Confirmation email will be sent out outlining registration details.

Work term and projects

Our students from the Technology Support Professional (TSP) program will be available for an eight week work term opportunity from April 15 to June 21. These students have completed a highly intensive 7 - month program that included the following industry certifications:

As well as courses in:

  • Installing and Configuring Windows 8 Client
  • Microsoft Office
  • Apple Certified Help Desk
  • CompTIA Linux+ Professional Institute Junior Administrator
  • Network Security
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Help Desk
  • Technology Writing

These students can be valuable in helping an employer start or complete a project; identify future employees while providing invaluable experience to students.

Possible positions or tasks for TSP students:

  • Technology Specialist
  • Desktop Support Technician
  • Help Desk Analyst
  • Application Support Specialist
  • Jr. Systems Analyst

Work terms are invited for a single student or a group of students where they will be able to work on a company site. Work terms will begin on April 14 and finish on June 20. An eight week term needs to be completed within the ten weeks provided and students will need to return to school after the work term.

Please submit a job description and company description by March 12. Students will forward resumes to BCIT. BCIT will forward resumes to work term employers by email on March 19.

Work term employers contact students for interviews (students are in class until 4:00pm).

Work term evaluation form to be completed by work term employer.
